This little piggy went to market

Well, actually this little piggy is going to go to live with my niece.

Purple & Pink Piggy

I started off intending this to be a pink piggy, as the patten called for. Knit the entire thing and ran out of pink yarn just shy of finishing the head. Terribly disappointed, I contemplated breaking my budget for a trip to the yarn shop (I’d already used up this month’s spending cash). Before I left though, I took a look through my yarn stash and found some fuzzy purple yarn I’d been given as a gift. I’m terrible with color matching, but decided I’d spare my budget and give a purple piggy with pink accents a try. After all, if I didn’t like the results, I might by then be into the next month and could use that spending cash for more pink yarn.

All through knitting the purple and pink piggy, I could decide how it would turn out. At one point I was certain I’d hate it and almost frogged the whole thing. Now that he’s all sewn together, stuffed full and equipped with corkscrew tail – I just love how he turned out! Much cuter than any plain pink piggy.

This little turtle is going to go live with my nephew. Or one just like him anyway. This particular turtle already went to live with Ronan, a friend’s new baby. I liked how it came out so much, I just had to make another.

Handmade gifts are one of my favorite ways to cut expenses. All I need is a little time, a pattern or two and some yarn from my stash. Conveniently, my niece and nephew are still at an age where handmade gifts from Aunt Laura are fun. I’m not sure how many more years that’ll last though.

Now I just need to figure out what to make for the adults in my family. Of course, I won’t likely be posting those things here, as they might on occasion read this little ol’ blog.
